Annual Luncheon and APS Retreat Presentations

September was a very busy month at East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging!

ANNUAL LUNCHEON:

On September 21, 2016 we held our Annual Luncheon to thank our provider agencies, Board of Directors and Advisory Council.  Our guest speakers for the luncheon this year were Dr. Jeff Woods, Prefessor, Kinesiology and Community Health and Directory of the Center on Health, Aging & Disablility in the College of Applied Health Sciences at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Dr. Jacob Sosnoff, Associate Professor, Kinesiology and Community health and Associate Directory of the Center on Health, Aging & Disability at the College of Applied Health Sciences and Director of the Illini Falls Prevention Clinic.  Dr. Woods and Dr. Sosnoff gave a wonderful presentation about the current research efforts underway at the university withregard to healthy aging, community outreach effort, "Age-Friendly Champaign-Urbana", as well a the Illini Falls Prevention Clinic and the focus on the state of the art assessment of fall risk and individualized prevention strategies.

APS RETREAT:

On September 28, 2016 ECIAAA held its 17th Annual APS (Adult Protective Services) Retreat.  The retreat is a way to thank our APS providers and staff for all of their hard work.  During the retreat they also receive updates for the Illinois Department on Aging liason and ECIAAA.  The guest speaker for this years retreat was Mary Koll, Assistant State's Attorney with the McLean County State's Attorney's office.

Mary Koll is a criminal prosecutor whose legal career has been dedicated to prosecuting violent offenders who prey on vulnerable populations. She currently supervises the domestic violence program in the McLean County State's Attorney's Office in Bloomington, Illinois. Before that, she served for several years as the supervising attorney of both the Domestic Violence Unit and the Elderly Victim Crime Unit in the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office. She coordinates the McLean County Coordinated Community Response Team, and regularly presents to law enforcement and other professional groups on domestic violence investigation and prosecution. She has tried numerous criminal cases, including first degree murder, sexual assault, child abuse, and serious domestic violence offenses. Her undergraduate degree is in social work, and she worked in the child welfare field before attending law school.
